Ron Andrico, an accomplished player and instructor of stringed instruments, is now accepting students for private lessons in the Ithaca, New York area.

A fixture in the early days of the now legendary Portland, Oregon music scene, he was a founding member of the Portland Folklore Society and the first organizer of Portland's monthly square dances. For over 30 years, he immersed himself in a wide variety of styles ranging from fiddle tunes to lounge music, Swedish fiddling to bluegrass, and country blues to baroque music. A specialist in music for the theatre, he performed, recorded and toured the US & Japan for five years as a member of the Trail Band with Marv & Rindy Ross, of the pop band Quarterflash. Today, his musical inclination leans toward intricate lute music from the renaissance, but he can still be coaxed to fiddle all night long.

Even though he holds a degree in composition, he is comfortable teaching both the paper-trained and those who play by ear. Having taught for 30 years, he has a sympathetic and focused approach to private instruction and specializes in helping beginning to intermediate players overcome barriers to relaxed, intelligent and expressive playing.

Fiddle
I teach mainly old-time American southern fiddle styles but with a concentration on good technique that will take you in any direction.

Banjo
Banjo was my first instrument. I teach both clawhammer and old-time fingerstyles with a focus on playing well with others and the skill of learning tunes on the fly.

Mandolin
Mandolin is a versatile and portable instrument that is relatively easy to learn. I teach old-time, bluegrass, ragtime and classical.

Guitar
Everybody plays guitar. I work with individuals to learn their way around the instrument with good technique in a variety of styles, either fingerstyle or flatpick.

Lute
Lute is an estoteric instrument and, if you have somehow managed to find one, I can show you how to not drop it and actually learn to make music on the thing. I also teach interpretation of lute music for classical guitarists.
